Resources and Governance

The Resources

1 Finance The Young Academy will be funded by, and underwritten by, the RSE. In addition, members will pay a subscription of £75 per annum. Sponsorship will be sought for particular activities.
2 Staffing The Young Academy will be supported by dedicated administrative staff provided by the RSE.

Governance

1 The Academy will operate under the aegis of the RSE in a separate but connected body to be set up by the RSE. An application will be made for charitable status and as such the Young Academy’s primary purpose will be to operate for public benefit. Governance authority and responsibility for the new Academy will be vested in the RSE for at least the first three years. The RSE will provide a supportive role, but the Young Academy will set its own agenda in consultation with the RSE.
2 A Steering Group will be established for an initial period of three years to manage the Young Academy and plan the programme of activities for the new Academy within agreed annual budgets.
3 After two years, there will be a governance review by the Steering Group to determine what would be the most appropriate governance structure for the future development of the new Academy. Any proposed changes would require to be approved by the RSE Council.
