The Young People's Programme occasionally collaborates on events outwith its core activities. At other times we come across events that are fun, interesting and relevant to schools, but not part of, or affiliated with, the RSE’s programme.

Check back here from time to time, for an exciting bank of events to explore.

3 November 2011: National Non-Fiction Day

On 3 November, over 280 primary school students attended National Non-Fiction Day at the RSE. The Scottish Book Trust organised the event at which Martin Brown delighted the audience with interactive tales of his experiences illustrating the Horrible Histories series.

Terry Deary's wonderful and vivid re-telling of history (with all the gory bits left in) is accentuated by Martin's incredibly funny line drawings and cartoons, which revolutionised non-fiction and history books for children. The books have sold over 20 million copies worldwide, won countless awards including a BAFTA, and a new Sunday night show with Stephen Fry has just been broadcast on BBC 1
