Guidelines and Regulations

The prize will be made to an individual, who is within fifteen years of graduation of their primary degree, and is aimed at early career researchers in academia, industry, research institutes and colleges of further education in Scotland. Individuals can self-nominate or be nominated.

The Selection Panel expects the outcomes of this award to have an impact, or potential impact, in economic and/or social benefits to humanity.

The winner will be required to deliver the RSE/BP Hutton Prize Lecture, either at the RSE or at another appropriate location, within one year of the presentation of the Award.

The Prize lecture will maintain the prize in the public domain and encourage the public understanding of science, one of the Society’s strategic objectives.

  • Petroleum Engineering

  • Chemical Engineering

  • Mechanical Engineering

  • Electrical Engineering

  • Control Engineering

  • Civil Engineering 

  • Information Technology

  • Chemistry 

  • Solid State Sciences 

  • Related Social Sciences that advance the areas of Oil, Gas, Carbon Capture, Bioenergy, Biofuels or Renewable Technologies
