Cloning is a hugely important issue. That is the reason The Royal Society of Edinburgh, Scotland’s National Academy, has organised a free public lecture and debate on this complex issue. The Society is concerned to ensure that the debate is taken forward in a balanced, sensible, structured and responsible way. Tonight’s first event is a lecture focusing on therapeutic cloning, based on the science and experience of animal cloning. The second part is a debate led by experts in the ethical aspects of cloning. It was on this basis that the speakers were chosen and we have excellent panels. No one has been excluded from attending and the meeting is open to the public. This is not a Media circus and our many good friends in the Media, who are welcome to attend, know and respect this.
