Sir William Stewart, President of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, commenting
on the membership said:
I am very pleased that we have secured a group of people with
unrivalled expertise across the wide remit of the investigation, willing
to give the time to carry forward this task. I believe it is hugely
important that we should specifically examine the issues raised for
Scotland by Foot and Mouth and do so through an expert and completely
independent body. This will not in any way detract from work being
carried out elsewhere with somewhat different remits. The contribution
of this group will be unique and uniquely valuable.
