Young People and Schools / Computer Science Inside....

Computer Science Inside...is a public engagement in science project running jointly between the Department of Computing Science at the University of Glasgow and the Royal Society of Edinburgh. The project provides web based resources for teachers and science communicators to bring Computing Science alive in the classroom. A series of workshops is available that focuses on modern technology and demonstrates to students how these applications and devices are underpinned by fundamental Computing Science concepts. Through the workshops pupils will discover the power and excitement of Computing Science.

The workshop packs developed so far are available for teachers to download and incorporate into their lessons with curriculum links provided on the website.
As part of this project free workshop mornings for secondary school pupils were held at the University of Glasgow in December 2006 and January 2007. Entitled Computing Science Masterclasses they enabled pupils to learn a little more about the subject and the technology that surrounds them.
These Masterclasses gave pupils the opportunity to participate in 2 of our newly developed workshops over a 3 hour session delivered by our academic presenters.
- One problem, 1000 Machines
- Algorithm Development
- Predictive Text Messaging and Machine Learning
- Tablets of Stone
