Funding & Awards

Funding & Awards

The funding which the RSE provides supports Scotland's cultural, economic and social wellbeing.  The programmes through which this funding is made available aim to:

  • Attract and retain those with outstanding potential to establish their Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) and Arts & Humanities careers in Scotland, and to make long term contributions to STEM and Arts & Humanities, and their application in Scotland.
  • Encourage enterprise & innovation and the commercialisation of technology-based ideas coming from academic research
  • Develop international collaborative links and enable participation in international research programmes

Awards Reception

We recognise excellence through awarding a number of prizes and medals, the highest of which is our Royal Medal

An annual event takes place in August/September at which all other Awardees formally receive their awards and have the opportunity to meet other Research Fellows, RSE Fellows and staff.

Winners of the 2016 Awards are pictured gathered at the RSE on 5 September for a presentation ceremony and reception.
